Vice Chair

Background

Young SSPHO is a formal working group (WG) within the Swiss Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (SSPHO), officially launched and approved at the first General Assembly (GA) in January 2022.

Young SSPHO represents junior members of the Swiss pediatric hematology-oncology (PHO) community. It intends to foster a closer community and to facilitate involvement of Switzerland’s youngest SSPHO members in activities of the professional society, e.g., in research, development and education.

Aims

We aim to facilitate involvement and exchange in clinical, research and educational activities as well as to become a driving force and platform for new ideas in the field of PHO.

  1. Address issues relating to junior members of Swiss PHO, such as clinical training, junior member-initiated scientific collaboration, facilitation of research, and perspectives for becoming the future leaders within clinical and pre-clinical PHO in Switzerland.

  2. Propose new initiatives to the SSPHO Board. Equally, the SSPHO Board has the opportunity to approach Young SSPHO in case they need input from young members for specific projects / studies.

Who

Chair: Preferably a Young SSPHO member at beginning of his/her fellowship. All Young SSPHO members can be nominated for Chair (by others or by themselves).

Vice-Chair: Preferably advanced in pediatric hematology and oncology, but maximum shortly after the hematology-oncology exam.

Ideally, the Chair and Vice-Chair will come from different institutions and from university as well as non-university hospitals.

Members: Young SSPHO members must be ordinary or extraordinary SSPHO members. Young SSPHO members are considered fellows in pediatric hematology and oncology, until 5 years after passing the hematology- oncology exam. This could be confirmed by the head of their department if needed. Membership is available for all clinicians and researchers with a specific interest in pediatric hematology-oncology.

Steering Committee members: to be nominated among Young SSPHO members. If several members apply for the same position, they are elected via electronic voting.

Responsibilities

Chair/Vice-Chair responsibilities:

  • Oversee the activities of Young SSPHO.

  • Pass group decisions.

Member responsibilities:

  • Decisions concerning changes of the terms of references are based on a qualified majority vote of all Young SSOHO members.

  • All members of the Steering Committee are actively involved in the projects run by Young SSPHO and every Steering Committee member should lead at least one of Young SSPHO’s activities.
