The SSPHO is the multidisciplinary professional organization within the field of paediatric haematology and oncology that represents the interests of its members and promotes optimal care for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer or blood disorders in Switzerland.

About the Organization

SSPHO is the multidisciplinary professional organization of paediatric haematology and oncology in Switzerland that represents the professional interests of its members and promotes optimal care for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer or blood disorders.

To strengthen and support the medical and scientific community in the field of paediatric haematology and oncology for children, adolescents, and young adults.

To improve survival, health, and quality of life, and create a better future for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer or blood disorders.

  • Strengthen and support the working groups in the various scientific and practical domains of paediatric haematology and oncology to advance the respective field.

  • Establish medical guidelines.

  • Cover the diverse needs during all stages of professional education on the way to specialize in paediatric haematology and oncology.

  • Define and continuously evaluate a comprehensive curriculum for young investigators to follow.

  • Provide and plan career development.

  • Organize and perform the subspeciality exam.

  • Organize and engage in ongoing professional development to ensure that healthcare professionals have state-of-the-art competence and knowledge.

Paediatric Oncology Centres Switzerland

Switzerland has nine specialized centers for paediatric haematology and oncology. These are located in Aarau, Basel, Bellinzona, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, St. Gallen, and Zurich. The centers provide comprehensive care for children with cancer and blood disorders, including state-of-the-art facilities and access to newest therapies.

Each center has a team of dedicated healthcare professionals specialized in paediatric haematology and oncology who offers personalized care to each patient and works closely with their families. In addition, the centers are involved in research and medical education and collaborate with other national and international institutions to advance medical knowledge and improve treatment outcomes.
